Organised by the Harbour Traders Association, the Dorset Seafood Festival is a free charity event raising funds for The Fisherman's Mission.

Under the theme of "Sea to Plate" it aims to promote the local seafood industry & encourage more people to eat sustainable seafood by creating a Seafood Village on both sides of the harbour with different local species of fish & shellfish available raw and cooked. The many specialist stalls are supported by professional cooking demonstrations from celebrity chef Mark Hix, the 2009 Materchef winner Matt Follas and John Wright from River Cottage as well as the final heats of the Young Seafood Masterchef competition. On the second stage there are more informal, fun demonstrations from stall holders and talented school children. The big fund raising charity events include the Guinness Cross Harbour Challenge Swim, the gruesome Fish Tucker Trials and for bargain hunters, the Fish Auction. There are also displays by the Historic Diving Association, a puppet theatre and street entertainers with a full 2 day programme of folk and sea shanty music in Hope Square.
