Boscawen Lifesaving & Rescue Club

Boscawen Lifesaving & Rescue Club was founded in 2003 for the purpose of training lifeguards around the Weymouth area and teaching water safety and Lifesaving awards to local youngsters.

We have progressed into an active community lifesaving group providing first aid and rescue cover for local events including next weeks spirit of the sea events on Weymouth Beach and the Model Boat festival the weekend after. We were present on Carnival day and the big screen Olympic handover event last year . People have turned to us as we are a solely voluntary club and work for purely donations to the club. We have around 20 members and always welcome new ones. We train at Osprey Leisure Centre on Portland, Saturday evening from 17-30 to 19.30 . We have volunteer trainers in RYA Awards, FAW First Aid, RLSS Lifesaving, ASA Swimming, BCU Canoe and National Pool Lifeguard Qualifications, we rely on training these courses to fund the club.

We have recently agreed to take over the training of  Weymouth & Portland Rookie Lifeguards and have a very healthy number of children from 8-12 years old being taught all aspects of water rescue, lifesaving and water safety.

We also get involved with regional 'speed lifesaving' events and travel throughout the county competing with the likes of Bournemouth, Poole and Christchurch lifesaving clubs.

We run a couple of rescue boats in Portland Harbour which are funded solely by donations and covers, and our own pockets, ..we attended the triathlon in weymouth bay last month, and have done firework cover in Novenmber for Weymouth & Portland Council .We have also provided a rescue service in Portland Harbour for the benefit of Kite surfers and windsurfers alike..

We are also reaching out into communities with community lifesaving awards and 'Save a baby's life' workshops to spread the word as far as we can.

Good news, a boat will be in attendance sunday.
