Run over two days, the aim of Beach Festival is to give young people from across Dorset the opportunity to be a part of an exciting and inspirational event. On 5th July nearly 150 yr 3, 4 and 5 pupils from four Weymouth Primary Schools will attend the event. On 6th July approximately 150 young people with a range of disabilities will attend the festival.
The pupils will have the opportunity to participate in a range of sporting and cultural activities, learning new skills and building the confidence to continue with the activities afterwards.
Activities such as sailing, kayaking, circus skills, beach football, sand castle building will be running across both days.
With the venue for the 2012 sailing on the doorstep of many of the young people, it is hoped that this event will inspire them to get involved in watersports and other activities on offer on a more regular basis. With the second day of the festival being organised purely for children with disabilities the festival is fully inclusive.
A legacy will be created when young people have the opportunity to try something new, be part of a ‘festival type’ atmosphere and enjoy a different competitive environment. This will have a very positive effect on pupils who will have a new enthusiasm for sport, culture and physical activity and will experience increase self belief and esteem. It will also increase public support for and engagement with activities linked to the London 2012 Games.
The event has been granted the Inspire Mark by LOCOG
N.B. Not a public event.
